Lock Down Day 8

March 32
Yes, today is march 32, since calendar has stopped being of any consequence to daily activities of vast number of us. To make the day real and to ensure that your being count for something please do something (however small) to stop human misery & animals suffering piling up all around us. Enveloped in cocoon of security of our homes we are prone to forget the hardship our less fortunate country men are facing. With no partiality to right or left I would like to appeal to every one inner self to thank every one who is making this safe conduct possible & pray for people who are not in safe environment.
And if you can please donate to your Chief minister relief fund, the finances across the states of Union of India   are precarious. More marketing focused efforts any ways are getting money, its our chief minsters who need funds to keep the cities & villages under them ticking. A cursory search on google will lead you to your state’s relief fund page.  Here is a link to our state’s fund https://cmrf.maharashtra.gov.in/CMRFCitizen/index.action
On to reading some facts from “The Indian Empire at War” By George Morton Jack” which I am reading, last few pages left now.
a.       Indian Army fought in world war I in France, Gallipoli, Iran, Iraq, Africa, China and Egypt also.
b.       The Iraq, Iran and African campaign were led and managed entirely by Indian Army under imperial command in London and Senior British officers in Indian army.
c.       Indian princely state also participated in these campaigns in various capacities.
d.       Prior to world war Indian Army participated in wars across Asia and even entered the Forbidden palace in Peiping (now Beijing) as part of victory parade in 1900. Goes without saying we were British India then,
e.       How British officers managed this and how they recruited is amazing.
Suggest find time and read this one. The author has written on Pre independence Indian army extensively. Most of it positive, good thing is that he is able to cover the ecosystem dynamics driving the formation of large volunteer force fighting somebody else’s war all across the globe.
